Driving Policies & Procedures Agreement

As a Driver, you must follow the policies below:

  1. You must have a paper copy of your current signed doctor’s recommendation and your current, valid California driver’s license.
  2. Complete the following checklist prior to leaving. Do not transport medicine if your vehicle does not pass any one of the below checks.
    • Inspect your vehicle and make sure all of the following components are functioning properly: headlights, tail lights, brake lights, blinkers and horn. If any of these items are not in working order do not use the vehicle.
    • Verify that your insurance is valid, your registration is current (the sticker and the paperwork) and that both documents are easily accessible. If either of these documents is not current or available, do not operate the vehicle.
    • Make sure you have sufficient fuel to drive to your final destination. If you do not, fill your gas tank prior to transport.
  3. Be a model of professionalism for the organization and ensure the safety and availability of medicine for patients by driving safely and legally at all times. On-the-job driving must be performed within the law. Speeding or any other penalty is unacceptable and drivers receiving tickets for violating traffic laws are responsible for their own citations.
  4. If you are pulled over, be respectful of law enforcement and follow their lawful instructions. Keep the conversation relevant – if the officer does not address that there is inventory in the car, there is no need to volunteer information. Honesty is the best policy when encountering law enforcement. If they specifically address the inventory, present your California Medical Cannabis Recommendation.
  5. If you are in a traffic collision, move out of danger as quickly as possible, but remain at the scene. Call 911 if there are injuries. When clear of any danger, lock the vehicle and photograph and/or document the situation. A smart phone is invaluable. Take a photo of the other driver’s license or, at minimum, collect the other drivers’ name, license number, and address, as well as the make, model and plate number of the car, as well as a description of color and condition. Make note of the driver’s state of mind, smell of alcohol, etc. Be a good witness! Only if it is 100% clear that damage does not exceed $500 AND that there is mutual agreement from both parties AND all above information is collected may anyone leave the scene without a police report. Notify your manager as soon as you’re able of any incident.
  6. If you are a victim of crime, surrender the medicine and cash as requested. Get to safety and call 911 and obtain a police report. Notify your manager as soon as possible.
  7. if you encounter legal charges outside of work, you must inform the depot leader. This type of situation could place the driver and the organization at risk, and it is imperative that the organization is aware of any legal issues one is having outside of their employment.
